La Main, toujours de son temps – Sherbrooke/Mont-Royal

Hi! I have lived in Montreal all my life. The first 22 years on Berri and Marie-Anne. I love my city and I am grateful to see that there are people interested in it’s past history and what made us who we are today.
I think this is an idea that can be done in all parts of the city. What architecture! What stories! Understanding and respecting everyone and their stories is essentiel to living together and respecting our diversities. Congratulations!

You did a great job of parts of the Main but you left out the side of 3790 St.Lawrence which was in my family since 1902-1995. The tin shop/gift shop or hardware store was named S. Bernhaut Ltd. and it was in the building which is now a nail salon sandwiched in between Brown’s Department store. My parents ran the store until they could no longer work..into their eighties. The store had thousands of pots,pans, hammers, nails, and ceramic figures jammed all in their own corners of the store. My Dad cut keys after the stove pipe business dropped off and he also cut windows for the neighbourhood. My Mom ran the business and was the saleperson.

I too, worked in the store and I can remember when the Russian ships would dock and groups of Russians (always in groups and never alone) would come into the store for the gold glass plates which they favoured.
